Beauty Entrepreneur Lia Dias Announces Acquisition Of Hype Hair Magazine
Deal establishes HYPE HAIR as a 100% female Black-owned independent company

Beauty entrepreneur and Married to Medicine Angeles Los star Lia Dias, today, announced the acquisition of Hype Hair, the iconic magazine for Black women’s hair and beauty news. The nearly 30 year old publication, is one of the longest-running hair and beauty publications with a daily news site focused on African-American hair, style and beauty. The magazine features articles and photographs on hairstyles and beauty products for Black women. It also features interviews and profiles on celebrities from the music, TV and movie world.

Dias, who owns a chain of successful beauty supply stores in California called, Girl Cave LA, a venture she founded to provide Black women with a safe space to shop for all their beauty essentials, takes pride in being the new current owner of the 30 year magazine. 

“Becoming the owner of Hype Hair Magazine represents the beginning of exciting new and fresh content for this iconic brand as it continues to evolve to amplify a larger mission of empowering the Black community and promoting a realistic standard of beauty across print, digital, e-commerce and experiential platforms,” says Dias.

HYPE HAIR will focus on expanding its digital businesses via distribution partnerships and compelling original content such as Kurly Korner with Hype Hair Beauty Editor, Abriana Gutierrez to continue to grow the engagement and influence of the HYPE HAIR brand. 

HYPE HAIR is also introducing their inaugural Hype Hair 30 For 30 event curated by Lia Dias in order to pay homage to Beauty CEO’s, hair and makeup artists and corporate beauty executives who are inspiring and dominating in their respective fields and changing the culture. 

Dias also included, “HYPE HAIR has always embodied the magic and cultural phenomenon of Black women who are powerful and ultimately have an economic impact on the beauty culture. We want to continue to be the platform that inspires the Black community and supports Black beauty innovators generating unmatched content and value for our advertising partners and creators. We want to lead the charge in beauty through our black voices.”

HYPE HAIR currently reaches a global audience of more than twenty-million encompassing its signature print magazine; digital, video and social platforms.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.


An Entrepreneur, Publisher, Real Estate Mogul, Philanthropist and Mother, Dias has been a prominent figure and voice in the community advocating for women empowerment and realistic beauty in the industry. Originally from Inglewood, California, the business-savvy entrepreneur is the owner of The Girl Cave Los Angeles, a chain of seven beauty supply stores and lifestyle brands in Los Angeles.
