KUALA LUMPUR – Jan 3, 2022 – The Most Venerable Datuk K. Sri Dhammaratana, the Buddhist Chief High Priest of Malaysia, encouraged the people to help the flood victims by visiting the disaster areas where possible, to experience the hardship faced by the victims first-hand. It can also give mental and physical support to the victims and help them rebuild their homes that were destroyed by the flood.

According to him, it is a personal blessing to be able to help people in distress and give them a helping hand, and in return, he gets joy and satisfaction that is beyond words and can even sow good karma for the next life.

He is also the founder of Ti-Ratana Welfare Society, and recently he went to Pahang Bentong with more than 100 volunteers to distribute the relief goods collected by the center to the affected victims of the floods and led the volunteers to clean the homes of the victims for reconstruction.

The activity involved the Kuala Lumpur 4X4 Adventure Club and a group of volunteers who volunteered to aid the people, with the cooperation of the Bentong Municipal Council.

Initially, they were supposed to go to three affected areas to distribute supplies and assist the victims, but they were affected by a landslide when they were heading to one of the areas which made them unable to move forward.

“We will follow up tightly in the next few days and as soon as the climate permits, we will deliver the supplies to that location.”

He said that when he and the volunteers saw the devastation caused by the floods, they were shocked and grateful that most of the victims had survived and hoped that they would continue to do so.

“We all witnessed with our own eyes how serious the damage caused by the flood was, we are glad that we were not affected and feel fortunate for that, but also can hardly imagine how we would cope with it if we were in the disaster area. Meanwhile, we also sympathize for the victims of the floods, whose homes and businesses were destroyed, and now they have no idea how to get back on their feet and rebuild their homes and businesses.”

The goods that they sent to the affected areas include pillows, mattresses, clothes, and some household items, he said.

He mentioned that as the year 2022 approaches, he also prayed that the Covid-19 pandemic will end as soon as possible, and people can live happily and healthily in this year; he also prayed that Malaysia will be free from natural disasters and people can live and work in peace and security.
