Innovative e-sports platform, The Long Island Gaming League, set to host the “FREE” Long Island High School Esports Open House Event to bridge the gap between competitive gaming and education

The Long Island Gaming League (LIGL) has continued in their pursuit of developing strong esports programs at High Schools throughout Long Island with the hosting of the forthcoming free esports open house event. The event is held in line with LIGL’s goal of bridging the gap between competitive gaming and education through esports club development, showing schools, students, and other such attendees the importance of having an esports program.

The Electronic Sports industry, popularly known as esports industry, has witnessed tremendous growth in recent times with experts predicting the industry to hit over $1 billion in a few years. The explosion can be largely attributed to the increasing number of fans, viewers, and participants worldwide, with the awareness rising to 1.28 billion in 2018. The acceptance and popularity of esports have grown within colleges and High Schools all over the US, and this is not just due to the fun and excitement that comes with it. Esports has been identified as a way of developing future innovators, and this is where the Long Island Gaming League is looking to make a huge difference.

“E-sports is more than just playing games—it can be used to help students grow their interests and develop valuable life skills. Since there are more students than after school programs that hold their interest, it’s about time we foster an opportunity that will incorporate fun and educational setting,” said Dennis Buchanan, Community Outreach Specialist and owner of The Long Island Gaming League (LIGL).

The forthcoming event in September aims to help schools and students harness the immense immediate and long-term benefits of e-sports. Some of such benefits are similar to those gained through participating in traditional high school sports and clubs, while others are unique to the expanding world of this growing industry.

The event will not only provide an unforgettable experience to all involved but continue its impact long after by expanding opportunities for local students as future innovators. It will also provide an opportunity for school officials and families to learn about LIGL’s Esports Club Development Program for High Schools, as well as esports College and career opportunities.

Some of the informative and exciting activities at the event will include Esports Industry showcase and Gaming tournaments (Fortnite, Rocket League, Street Fighter). Attendees will also get Esports Goodie Bags and have the opportunity to start an Esports High School Club.

More information about the event to hold at Microsoft Store Walt Whitman and how to register can be found on the LIGL website and Eventbrite. The Long Island Gaming League is also available on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
